DS3 (sometimes referred to as T3) is a term for a digital carrier facility used to transmit a DS3 formatted digital signals. DS3 is a leased private dedicated line that goes directly from your office to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), such as WorldSpice Technologies. A DS3 connection is equivalent to 28 T1/DS1 connections and uses digital signals on fiber optic cable at speeds of 45 megabits per second.

Can you benefit from a DS3 connection?

Ideal for companies who host high-traffic web sites, support web hosting, or need high-capacity bandwidth on an as-needed basis. A full DS3 can accommodate many users depending on the requirements of the business. Generally a DS3 line is installed as a major networking channel for large corporations or universities with high volume network traffic. This is an always-on, high-speed connection that provides a constant presence on the Internet.

The DS3 connects the backbone provider to the ISP provider. We run fiber optic from our point of presence (POP) which connects to multiple fiber optic backbones to the Internet in the southeast and mid-west. The signal comes into the CSU/DSU and then goes to the router. From there it goes into the master name server and may be routed to other servers. One of these servers may be a modem or terminal server that allows you to connect to the Internet. You log in and are verified as a user on the local network and then are allowed to proceed to the larger network (Internet). Only certain providers have the capacity to provide these high-speed circuits.

A DS3 circuit is the ideal solution for businesses that require high-bandwidth access at a reasonable price. Tiered DS3

Tiered DS3 is more suitable for customers who expect their bandwidth requirements to increase steadily and/or continually in the near future. Customers with other access options such as T1 lines can rapidly and easily switch their access solution to a single Fractional DS3.

Burstable DS3

Burstable DS3 is a dedicated point-to-point circuit from a customer's premises to the WorldSpice network operation center (NOC). This service is priced in billing tiers of 3mbps increments from 3mbps to 45mbps. As a burstable DS3 customer, you always have the full bandwidth available over an unshared, non-fractional 45mbps digital leased line.
